Judicial independence assessments in Latin America (English and Spanish)

These assessments produced by the Vance Center and the Central American Federation of Judges for Democracy (FECAJUD) aim to provide concrete and updated information on the different countries in the region, raise awareness, and generate productive dialogues with the national and international community. The central idea is to identify which difficulties of governance and independence in the development of jurisdictional functions originate in the institutional and normative design and which are a problem of legal implementation, legal culture, or undue interference of other powers in the judicial operation.

Estos diagnósticos producidos por el Vance Center y la Federación Centroamericana de Juezas y Jueces por la Democracia (FECAJUD) tienen por objetivo contar con información concreta y actualizada sobre los diferentes países de la región, visibilizar problemas y generar diálogos productivos con la comunidad nacional e internacional. La idea central es identificar cuáles dificultades de gobernanza e independencia en el desarrollo de funciones jurisdiccionales se originan en el diseño institucional y normativo, y cuáles de ellas son un problema de aplicación de reglas, de cultura legal o de indebidas injerencias de otros poderes en la operación judicial.
