Judicial Independence Assessments for Central America

This series of assessments, produced by the Vance Center and the Central American Federation of Judges for Democracy (FECAJUD), aim to provide concrete and updated information on the independence of the judiciary in various Latin American countries, generate productive dialogues on this issue with key actors in the national and international community, and raise overall public awareness about the importance of an independent judiciary.

The analyses identify different ways in which jurisdictional functions are impacted by issues with governance and judicial independence. They differentiate between challenges that result from flaws in institutional and normative design and those related to legal implementation, legal culture, or undue interference of other powers in the judicial operation.
