Lawyers for Reporters Announces Website and Team

July 2020

Lawyers for Reporters, the Vance Center’s collaboration with the Press Freedom Defense Fund to support local journalism in the United States, has officially launched its website: lawyers4reporters.org, including its new logo.

The newly-launched website invites local U.S. journalism and other reporting organizations to seek legal assistance. Lawyers for Reporters provides pro bono support for the business of journalism: corporate, transactional, employment, real estate, tax, and non-profit formation and governance matters. It also provides counseling services, such as pre-publication review, copyright and trademark clearance, licensing, and newsgathering advice. It offers defense of libel, privacy, copyright or other litigation threats.

The Lawyers for Reporters website also reports on the results of legal cases, helping to promote the clients’ successes, as well as informing the public of legal developments.

The website also highlights the Lawyers for Reporters team, including the Vance Center’s own Alexander Papachristou and Cindy Moore. The other team members are special counsels David Bralow, Senior Vice President, Law at First Law Media Works, the publisher of The Intercept, and Legal Director at the Press Freedom Defense Fund and Kay Murray, Vice President, Law at First Look Media Works. These in-house lawyers co-counsel with the pro bono programs of law firms throughout the country to meet client needs.
