Jaime Chavez-Alor joined the Vance Center in November 2018 as the Latin America Policy Manager; as of January 2024, he holds the title of Associate Executive Director. In his role, he is responsible for directing the Vance Center’s Institutional Integrity Program, leading pro bono practice development and strategy, including co-coordinating the Pro Bono Network of the Americas, and developing policy-related and diversity initiatives. He is also responsible for overall programmatic strategy and monitoring and evaluation, including impact measurement.
Before joining the Vance Center, Jaime worked in the three branches of the Mexican federal government. He served as head of the Unit of Ethics, Public Integrity, and Prevention of Conflict of Interest in the Secretariat of Public Administration and as head of the Unit of International Affairs and Attachés in the Office of the Attorney General. He worked before as senior advisor to a Mexican senator and junior advisor to the Chief Justice of the Mexican Supreme Court of Justice. He has also worked as a normative analysis and institutional design expert.
Jaime received his law degree from Escuela Libre de Derecho in Mexico City and an LLM from Columbia Law School, where he graduated as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and received the Parker School of Foreign and Comparative Law Recognition of Achievement. He also has studies in public policy, human rights, and comparative criminal law.
In 2014, he was selected to participate in the U.S. Department of State Professional Fellows Program, and in 2016, in the Mexico – United Kingdom Initiative on Future Leaders.
Jaime has authored and co-authored several articles and books on human rights, conflict of interest, corruption, and democratic participation.
Born and raised in Mexico, he is fluent in Spanish and English.

Jaime Chávez Alor se unió al equipo del Vance Center en noviembre de 2018 como Gerente de Políticas para América Latina; a partir de enero de 2024, tiene el título de Director Ejecutivo Adjunto. En su función, es responsable de dirigir el Programa de Integridad Institucional del Vance Center, liderar el desarrollo y la estrategia de la práctica pro bono, incluida la coordinación conjunta de la Red Pro Bono de las Américas, y desarrollar iniciativas relacionadas con las políticas y la diversidad. También es responsable de la estrategia programática general y del seguimiento y la evaluación, incluida la medición del impacto.
Antes de incorporarse al Vance Center, Jaime trabajó en los tres poderes del gobierno federal mexicano. Fue titular de la Unidad de Ética, Integridad Pública y Prevención de Conflictos de Interés de la Secretaría de la Función Pública y titular de la Coordinación de Asuntos Internacionales y Agregadurías de la Procuraduría General de la República. Anteriormente se desempeñó como asesor senior de una senadora mexicano y asesor junior del Presidente de la Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación. También ha trabajado como experto en análisis normativo y diseño institucional.
Jaime es abogado por la Escuela Libre de Derecho de México D.F. y tiene una Maestría en Derecho por la Columbia Law School, donde se graduó como Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar y recibió el Parker School of Foreign and Comparative Law Recognition of Achievement. También tiene estudios en políticas públicas, derechos humanos y derecho penal comparado.
En 2014, fue seleccionado para participar en el Programa de Becarios Profesionales del Departamento de Estado de Estados Unidos, y en 2016, en la Iniciativa México – Reino Unido sobre Futuros Líderes.
Jaime es autor y coautor de varios artículos y libros sobre derechos humanos, conflicto de intereses, corrupción y participación democrática.
